Setup for WDLiveHD and drives to use
« on: February 18, 2010, 09:33:42 AM »

Well I ordered a WD Live HD that I want to stream DVD from using the DNS-323 that will hold the DVD VOB files.  Since I own several hundred DVDs I want to use 2Tb drives setup for a total of 4Tb.  I also understand that 7200 speed drives are not needed, so I am looking for two drives that run the coolest & work with the DNS-323.

Side note I am re-wiring my house with CAT6 so I can have Gigabyte thru put.

Anyway best drives that fit my project.

Thanks

I have two Western Digital WD Caviar Green WD15EADS (1,5TB with 5400) in RAID1.
The DNS-3232 is connected via gigabyte ethernet to my WDTV Live and streams DVDs (VOB and ISO)  without any problems.

I've tested streaming some HD demo content (1080p), which also runs smoothly.
So I don't expect you to have any trouble with the WD20EADS (2 TB) in a gigabyte environment.

It doesn't seem to be a list of drives that are "Latest & Greatest".  But thanks for reply.

Think I will go with two "WD20EADS 2TB" drives.

Make sure you update firmware to 1.08 for 2.0TB compatibility.
