i just upgraded from a linksys wrt54g running dd-wrts fireware to a d-link dgl-4500. let me start by saying my only reason for upgrade was to get a speed boost with my overall wireless network,  since the upgrade i have been getting connection dropped, wireless resets like crazy, TONS of lost packets , it has gotten so bad that i have had to remove the dgl-4500 and return my old router service. below i have listed how i have my network set up any help would be great

hardware A2 running firmware 1.22na w/Dlink Gaming antenna
wireless mode n/g only 
channel , Ive tried 1/6/11
mac filter
reservered ip's for all devices connected


with that being said with the wrt54g my signal is around 75-85% 

with the dgl-4500 i am getting less the 60% strength

Try downgrading firmware to 1.15, there is thread that shows you how. I think you will notice a big improvement. The 1.20 firmwares are very questionable.

v1.22 NA is working well.

Take those signal strength numbers with a grain of salt.  Are you set up using WPA2/AES?

I agree with the downgrade to 1.15 comment. My 4500 is back to normal again. No complaints.

1.22NA is working fine for me after my problems. It's been a few weeks and I have had no problems.

i have upgraded from 1.6 to 1.22, so far no problems

Yes but not for everyone, we are trying to help the original post. I think we can all agree on that not one firmware works 100% with all the routers. Instead treat each router by case by case and offer diferent sugestions to resolve it.

Was curious how this issue is progressing? Let us know. Since your using wireless, What happens if you try 2.4Ghz G mode only?

i downgraded to 1.15 and bricked the dam thing , after reading some other forumpost i was able to restore the router to 1.22na i have tried running it in G only mode and mixed mode both still have massive packet loss .

glad you got the router unbricked. Interested on how you did the downgrade. I was able to do the downgrade on my 2nd A1 4500 and it worked great.

As far as packet loss. I have seen packet losses on v1.22NA however have not seen any issues as far as that is concerned. I'm connected and enjoy the internet. I might try changing the channels from 1/6/7 or 11 and see if that helps any. You will some pack loss and I don't think is going to be perfect either. Alot of factors can effect WiFi and the stats your seeing. Other house frequencies, wireless phones, microwaves, other nieghbors.

ive tried channels 1/6/11 i  can connect to the internet but i cant really enjoy it. i bought this as a gamiing router and lets just say its no where near a gaming router. my wrt54gv2 has a perfect signal and never drops my connection and pings within game never go over 200ms  and with the dgl-4500 the ping would be great for  about 15min of gaming then boom your hit with a huge lag or even a connection drop.for the price i paid for this i was hoping alot of the issues i read about would have been fixed by now.

I know it did not work the first time but please try to downgrade one more time, you have nothing to loose. If it still fails file a complaint with the BBB and you will get dlinks attention very fast and most likely a refund.

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know:

I had plenty of troubles with the router losing internet connection daily and had to reboot.  After many calls and emails to tech support, the sent me a new one.  This one has firmware 1.15, so I'm guessing that was their solution.  It did work without rebooting for a month.  Now, with no changes, it needs to be rebooted daily to restore the internet connection.

So this seems to suggest that downgrading your firmware is not necessarily a permanent solution.  I am considering upgrading this one's firmware to the latest.

I have used the suggestions here for the settings, with the addition of actually using WISH and access control.

I wonder why it would work for so long then suddenly go back to it's old ways.  Is it possible that this is heat related or at least a hardware defect in this model?

Suggestions are of course welcome!
