log times not saved after power down
« on: February 27, 2010, 06:26:43 PM »

Hello forum,

I have a new DIR-655 router I am using for wired service (main PC) and light wireless home use, firmware is 1.32na and updater says that is current

Set up went fine and have easily made setup changes to suit my preferences also the router is very stable

I power down the router when not home and some outher times when the computing equipment is not used

My question is when viewing the log entries, items from the "last power session" have the date and time of router setup on those entries, the current power cycle shows all entries at the correct time.

I have the time server checked and it works fine every power up cycle (using "time.windows.com" server)

Is this normal behavior? It is not a big deal just very curious --- Thanks in advance - Bill

What I mean is the last time the unit was powered up

When the unit is powered down the time and date are not saved with the entries in the log, the entries are there and correct but the time is wrong

To clarify if the unit is powered down over a week 4 times, there are only two times on log entries, the current time (entries logged that day) and everything else is listed as the day and time of setup, even though there were several days of events.

Hope this helps

you can copy the time of your computer. I think that is a normal behavior with the router.

ummmm...these routers don't have battery backup for their system clock....if its powered off, its powered off...

When it resets after powering back on, you are left with whatever settings the router does or does not save as it goes thru its boot process.....

I do totally understand about the lack of battery backup

It seems curious that the log entries can be saved and all setup paramiters but not the time, it would be obvious that there exist a non volital memory in the device

I believe this is normal behavior, I was just curious if anyone else noted this

May thanks for the replies -- Bill
