Delete or Disable Lpr

Is there a way to remove or disable the lpr share so that it doesn't appear in the available shares.

I would like to be able to do the same. In addition, add support for attaching a USB hard drive. While it is unfortunately a USB 1.1 port, the functionality would be nice.

What makes you think it's a USB 1.1 port?

A long time ago I investigated this, along with the possibility of attaching a USB hard drive, and based on the notes I have been able to dredge up ...

a) the Marvell 88F5181 processor used in hardware rev A1 supports USB 2.0
b) the DMESG output when my DNS-323 boots lists an EHCI (enhanced host controller interface aka USB 2.0)
c) crude read/write tests to a USB 2.0 memory stick showed transfer rates of approximately 10 MByte/sec, well over the 12 mbps speed of a USB 1.1 port.

Well then, mark me as please. I could have sworn everyone on the dns wiki stated it was a usb 1.1 port. If it is 2.0 then all the better to add this functionality officially. I know it can be done fairly easily via fun plug. Thanks for the feedback!

I also wish I could attach USB HDD to my DNS and transfer files directly between the two.  Wish I understood why remote backup feature is a more important addition than basic NAS functions.

For a minute I wondered what you meant by that last statement and then I figured it out - backup IS a basic NAS function.

Yes - I too, would like to be able to attach a USB hard drive and back up to it - it would be so much more convenient than backing up to the "cloud".

Especially since many service providers have bandwidth caps, and charge quite a bit if you go over that amount.

Disable LPR -> If running FFP, add "killall lpd" to one of your start scripts.
