Using OSX, I find any kind file management  - copying, deleting, etc - to be extremely slow. It would be great if file management could done through the 323's web interface.

Have you tried NFS for accessing the box?

I should also mention that there are several files/folders that I've backed up to my 323 that I cannot delete because I don't have the proper permissions.

So anyway, I've installed the NFS addon application and turned it on.

In the Network Access page I've created NFS shares for both volumes of my 323 using the following settings:

- host is the local IP of the 323
- folder(s) are Volume 1/Volume 2
- permissions are read/write
- "root squash" is set to "no".

I'm assuming these settings will give me full access to all files on the volumes... But in OSX or virtual  WinXP I don't actually know how to access these volumes as NFS instead of Samba.

What am I missing here? Have I set this up correctly?

You have to install the NFS Server add-on.

Is it something I install on my computer? where would I get it? There's no such file that I could find on the DNS-323 downloads page or dlink ftp...

update: if you're referring to the 3rd party nfs server available by installing fonz's funplug, then it's a no go for me. Funplug will not install on my 323. Or at least, I wasn't able to install it.

As I said in my previous post, I've already downloaded, installed and configured the NFS add on. What I'd like to be able to do is access the 323 via NFS using OSX and or WinXP. I don't know how to do this.

I was confused by your addition of the word "server" to "NFS server add-on". I thought maybe you meant something different than the NFS add-on download available on dlink's dns-323 support page and ftp.

Does anyone know how the 323 implementation of NFS works?

I have shares set up for both NFS and samba - how am I actually connecting to the 323? How do I choose one protocol over the other?

I'd like to get some details on how the NFS add-on works and how it differs from SMB.  Are there any tutorials or user guides?

NFS and SMB are two totally different access protocols.  SMB is the common one for Windows nowadays.

i just tried using this and find that it is much faster and i need not turn on my computer
just need to state the source and destination
But a file management using web browser is cool too
