« on: March 11, 2010, 08:43:01 AM »

I connected my WAN port to my modem and LAN port to my pc. my modem ip address is 192.168.1.1 and dir655 is 192.168.0.1. My router need to configure to use PPPOE as connection type to connect to my isp. but once this is set, i cant access to my modem anymore, may i know how can i access to the modem page without any pluging in and out of the wire?

locally, dsl modems are  192.168.1.254 but that is south eastern Florida area...ATT formerly bellsouth area.  This IP can conflict with DIR's set to also use the 192.168.1.xxx IP subnets....

some cable modems are 192.168.100.1 but not all have pages to view.

you should be able to go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser and get into your modem setups page

That's because they are now on two different networks. Your router is on one network while your modem is on another and they now can not communicate between they two.

At least that's how it sounds to me atm.

To try and fix this we need to do subnetting. Google it my friend to learn more.

So let's try this shall we. First load up http://192.168.0.1/Basic/Network.shtml .

Now take note of your below settings just in case something goes wrong.

1.) Under "Router Settings" change "Router IP Address" to "192.168.1.16".

2.) On the same page under "DHCP Server Settings" change "DHCP IP Address Range" to "192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199".

3.) Save settings and restart router.

Now you will need to reconnect your wireless connection. In fact just delete and create a new one. So you can be sure it has the correct settings. I'm talking about how you connect to your connection in windows here.

Now see if you can open the modem page @ 192.168.1.1 and your router page @ 192.168.1.16.

If not see if you can at least ping both of them. And of course see if the Internet is still working.

So sadly if this does not work just reset your settings to how you had them.

Weird, so indeed sounds like PPPOE is in fact screwing something up. Not sure what else you can do m8. :(
