Calling DLink Moderators or Support
« on: March 13, 2010, 10:12:35 PM »

Hi:

A lot of us are waiting for a response on two issues which you seem to ignore.  They are:

1) FTP over explicit TLS/SSL.

2) File permissions.

We are not expecting instant results but we do expect, as owners of the product, for you people to listen to our problems, research them and connect with us with some kind of answers.

If you check our posts you will see that the above items have several thousand hits but yet you are silent.

What we would like to ask is that you review the posts concerning these items and then respond back to us. I have been spending a lot of time trying to get the  FTP problem solved and like others with no success. Is there an answer? I bet someone in your organization knows and you can find out.

I believe that it is D-Link's responsibility to investigate these matters and report what you found out even if it is not what we want to here.  Isn't that the reason that this forum was setup?

I feel that I speak for all of us DNS-323 owners on this forum that you should provide us some answers.

Anyone that agrees with me please add your name to this post.

Terry

Well put.  D-Link is NOT providing any level of support to their customers of this product.  I have called their "support" line three times.  The first two times I explained the situation, both reps said they didn't understand my issue and hung up.  The last one was at least walking through the basic steps but I could tell, she was just reading from prompts and didn't understand what she was saying.  She told me I should call back on monday between 8 and 5.

Having struggled with FTP over explicit TLS/SSL for some time now, I would appreciate hearing from the D-Link Moderator on that issue.

Fordem,
I am using the latest version of  Filezilla. I have been down this path before without any luck. Username and Password is encrpted but data is flying wide open. That is where I am at with this FTP over explicit SSL/TLS.

Ditto for me.  And I'm using a D-Link 655 Router.

I never could crack that issue, it's the same here with FileZilla and CuteFTP, it's obviously a DNS-323 issue.

I've also tried FireFTP with no success.

i second this.

my problem is file permissions - I'm unable to delete a number of files and folders because I don't have the correct permissions.

And I think I have a newer rev box which prevents me from installing ffp, so no telnet for me. But I shouldn't need to hack this box to fix this problem.

D-link, please help!

It's the first I've heard that fun_plug doesn't work on new hardware, did you actually try it?

After reading the basic install instructions and checking out a few other references (like http://www.horto.ca/?p=10), I first tried installing funplug by copying the tarball to volume_1 and restarting, but it didn't explode. I then unpacked the files manually and copied them to volume_1, but nothing had changed after restarting the 323 (no ffp directory, no new files). I checked out some posts including this http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=5460 that indicated maybe there was some kind of issue with rev C1, and this was as far as I got.

It's probably the case that with more tinkering I might get it to work... but this is all beside the point.

Shouldn't I be able to deal with an issue like file permissions without having to hack the box? I just want to be able to delete my files without reformatting my drives. Is that too much to ask?

Not too much to ask at all.

BTW - Did you create the "fun_plug" script in addition to copying the archive? You didn't mention it. It is required and the key to installing ffp.

oh yes, forgot that - you mean fun_plug.sh? yup, that was copied to volume_1 at the same time as the .tar file.

I should probably give fun_plug another try, but I really only need the 323 for backup, bittorrent, and media. I'm supposed to get all that functionality out of the box, and for the most part I do, except for these file permission headaches.

Ahh... I see the problem.  the "fun_plug" script should not have a .sh extension, just "fun_plug".
I believe your browser (Opera?, most likely) added the .sh extension when you downloaded the
fun_plug script file.  Remove the .sh extension and try again.

i'm using Safari and sometimes Firefox

- downloaded a new copy of fun_plug and removed the .sh file extension
- Copied fun_plug and fun_plug.tgz to the 323
- Reset the 323 to factory defaults
- Restarted... no go.
