Virtual WiFi Miniport UDP Timeout Teredo
« on: March 20, 2010, 02:14:21 PM »

My DIR-655 router has been consistently logging the errors:

UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> 68.4.xx.xx:xxxxx <-> 192.168.xx.xx:xxxxx UDP timeout:-1 'Teredo'.

After disabling the Windows 7 Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter (a new feature of Windows 7) the errors finally stopped.  The Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter is found configured on Network Connections.

My router is Hardware version A4 and Firmware 1.21.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit OS.

Disabling the virtual miniport does not seem to have created any unexpected anomalies, however, what is the compatibility of the DIR-655 and the Virtual WiFi Miniport?  Is there a patch for this issue?  What if I want to utilize the VWiFi Port in the future, how should this be configured?

Just turn IPV6 off and you get rid of "TEREDO"

Thank you for the suggestion.  I had seen a post earlier about the relationship of the Teredo and IPV6 setting and did disable IPV6 on my regular wireless adapter connection.  But, this did not resolve the errors.

After considering your suggestion, I re-enabled the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport adapter and then disabled the IPV6 setting specifically with this adapter.  This appears to have worked and I no longer see the streaming UDP timeouts and the miniport is enabled.  Miracle!

What is interesting is I'm not using the Virtual WiFi Miniport.  It is enabled, but not connected, which I would expect it to be.  Previously, even though I was not connected to this adapter port it still generated the errors.

Thanks again for the suggestion and I'll continue to monitor things for another day or so....

Teredo is Windows' implementation of IPv6 tunneling over IPv4 connections. Disabling IPv6 should stop this from happening, if it doesn't it means there's still something trying to connect to IPv6, find it and turn it off too. And, as always with Windows, try restarting a few times once you've disabled it.

The log entry signals that IPv6 tunneling works on the DIR  ;D
