DIR-825 Cisco VPN Connection Problem
« on: March 28, 2010, 06:25:26 AM »

I'm using Cisco Systems VPN Client version 5.0.03.0560 on a laptop running Vista to connect to my company server, but am not longer able to after purchasing a DIR-825.  I previously had a DIR-624 and everything was working fine until it died and I bought the DIR-825.  Initially, the Cisco client was configured to use IPSec/TCP and did not work.  I changed the configuration to IPSec/UDP and it connected with no problem for a few weeks.  However, after disconnecting for the first time to travel, it would not work when I returned.  Now, I can start the Cisco connection process and it will ask for my password and shows it is "securing a communications channel" but then drops the attempt and shows "not connected."  Everything works fine when I use my verizon air card, but that's a slow connection and not optimum for the large files I need to download.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Had a lot of trouble with the early Cisco 5.0.0x clients.
The first one working for me is 5.0.0.5.280 (with Vista and Win7)

DIR-825 is most likely not the problem. It handles up to 5 IPSec/UDP Sessions here in my home office.

Try disconnect all networks and then restart.
Uninstall the client an restart
Install the client again and restart.
Connect it to your network and try again.

The client computer is locked down by my company from installing software.  Everything was working fine until I switched to the DIR-825.  I've been using the same client for about 2 years.

Perhaps change some router firewall settings:

Turn SPI Firewall off
Set Endpoint Filtering: UDP = Endpoint independent / TCP = Address Restricted
Disable Anti Spoof Checking
Enable all ALGs

In the Advanced Network Section:
Enable UPNP
Disable Multicast Streams

I'm running version 5.0.0.5 of the Cisco VPN client. No compression and local lan disabled in the settings.
Works smoothly, no problem.  ;D
