New here, question about Router bug
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:49:59 PM »

I've read reviews on this router many times and a lot of ppl have had the same problem as me.  Every once and a while, my router prevents me from accessing the internet.  Also, I sometimes disconnect from my games because of it.  Now here is the weird part, Even though my pc can't access the internet, it still shows me as having an IP address and a Gateway and DNS address.  Also, even though I can't get to a simple site like google, or even ping it, my ventrillo works perfectly fine.  it's as if this router somehow dumps all ports and only a couple ports are working.

The only way I can fix this issue is by unplugging the power and plugging it back in.  The standard ipconfig /release or /renew do not work.  Also, this issue used to happen once every couple weeks when I first got it, but now it happens almost every day.

One thing I'm doing is using DHCP instead of static IPs.  I know in some of the threads I've been reading, some people suggest this is a CPU glitch where it somehow overloads and locks up.  But that doesn't always explain why I can still talk and listen to people on ventrillo, but nothing else works.  Right now I'm using the 1.21NA firmware...but instead of upgrading the firmware, I think I might just return this router (i've had it for 9 months and I have a warranty) for a new one...but I'm afraid the new one will do the same exact thing.

Edit: Also, when this issue happens, I've also noticed that I cannot log onto my router and check it's settings till after I reboot it.  Another thing is that my desktop and xbox 360 are all wired, while my printer is wireless, and sometimes my laptop when I use it.

What FW version is currenty loaded on it? There has been an issue with the router hanging or not allowing access to the internet. Let us know what is loaded.

Thats the FW version that hangs and really didn't work well for most people. After upgrading to v1.22NA, it fixed it and works well. Hope you will find what you need. Let us know if we can help.

Hmm, reminds me of the board game Clue. The one left standing after the crime, is usually the culprit. If everything but your VOIP works(If I understand what Ventrilo is) then likly your VOIP is causing the problem. Try uninstalling the client from all/any PC's and give it a day or two. Problem go away?  I have seen similar issues with Vonage and Skype.

Actually, it's the opposite issue.  Everything doesn't work EXCEPT for my VOIP.  Sometimes I can play WoW and my VOIP is on, but the internet doesn't (meaning I go to google or Digg and there is no connection).

1.21 was HORRIBLE.  Do a factory restore, flash it to 1.22 and then change what ever settings you need to  make but do them manually.  Do not load a config file.  Since I did that, my router has been flawless. Going strong for 12 days & counting.  I run at least pc devices plus two xbox 360's on xbox live without a hitch.
