DAP-1522 and 5Ghz --> Not Supported [Firmware 1.21]
« on: April 03, 2010, 08:22:43 PM »

Having read a lot of posts, it's clear there is a problem with 5Ghz. We're running a dual-band router and can connect with the DAP-1522 with 2.4 Ghz but not 5Ghz. I've tried the different 'tricks' other have posted to no avail.  (Firmware 1.21)

The Dual-band router is running DD-WRT so I have full control over the radios. I've made sure the frequency on the 5Ghz band of my router is within the supported frequency range of the DAP-1522. Yet at no time has it been visible on the site survey. (I'm running it as a bridge.)

Can the D-Link people please post a definitive response to the 5Ghz issue? 5Ghz is prominently advertised all over the box so you would expect it to work - right?

Purchased a 5GHz card and plugged it into a PC further away than the DAP-1522. Was able to log into the 5GHz network (WOW - it's pretty cool!). So the problem isn't with the 5GHz network . . . .

Agree 100%. Just spent an hour of frustration trying to get the DAP to communicate with a DIR-825 rev.B1 at 5 GHz. It works perfectly at 2.4 GHz.

I agree.  Having scoured the forums and seeing no official response from D-Link, someone needs to give an answer to all of us.  Is there a beta firmware we can test at least or is this a big paperweight?

I've been able to have this dlink connect to another N at 5G, can even get it to assign onther computers on my LAN an IP address from the router on the other side...  My problem is that I cannot seem to get the DNS part of things to get working.  My computers can get an IP with the gateway configured and everything via DHCP, but no internet... grr.  Its going from the DAP1522 to a Berkley.

Please share with the rest of us your firmware version and what router you're connecting to (and any other things we need to know) so we can gets ours to work.

Yeah, I'm having this problem as well ... I change some things (not sure what, going to play more) and boom, I have 5 GHz working ... I flip another setting (I'm currently trying desperately to get this thing to connect to my DIR-825 at anything higher than 140 Mbps) and I lose all visibility of 5 GHz and all connectivity to the DIR-825.  I am absolutely losing my MIND with these two boxes.  I am SO glad I bought them somewhere I can easily return them both if I don't get this working right by morning, which I can not foresee happening at all.

Ok, so I tried everything, twice, and then I finally got them to connect (though still only at 140 Mbps) - I had loaded factory defaults on both, configured the router with the CD (since they insist that will solve all my speed issues, yet it doesn't), disabled security on both ends ... they of course connected on 2.4 since the default settings match ... I tried to force the 1522 to use the 5GHz SSID and then it wouldn't connect at all.  I played around, tried disabling 2.4GHz on the 825 and then using the auto-config button on the side, no help ... then I *enabled* encryption on both ends, WPA2-PSK, AES on the 1522 end, WPA1/2-PSK AES on the 825 end, and magically, they connected ... they're still at 140 Mbps though, despite all my settings matching what it says in the "300Mbps connection requirements" sticky, so I give up ... they are both going back to the store tomorrow.  Good luck to the rest of you with all your problems.

I hope you -do- realise, that, when using any form of encryption, you will never reach full 300 mbps... But I feel your pain.

I did not, but 280, 270 ... maybe even 250 Mbps, I could have lived with.  140 Mbps with throughput at around the same level as the 11G network I already had, no dice.  It's a real shame too, I REALLY like the stock firmware on the DIR-825 ... especially the ability to terminate my IPv6 tunnel right on the box.  They've both gone back to the store now though and I'm trying to decide between Linksys or Netgear for my next attempt.

I had the same problem.  The 5G was capped at 140 and the 2.4G was capped at 130.  Nothing I could do increased the speed, even Lycans sticky settings made no difference.

Enter Firmware 2.03NA (today)....fixed the problem!

I'm seeing speeds of 243, but generally settles at 217 on 5G betweem my DAP-1522 and Dir-825 (60 feet apart 1 floor up).  It now seems to monitor in realtime for both my bridges and laptop!

Much better...now if only they would fix my fan problem on my DNS-323!

Yes, where did you find the new-and-possibly-improved firmware? I have searched across all D-Link affiliated websites, but no luck...

Sorry guys,

It was the firmware for the Dir-825 on the US or Canadian website...

http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-825&rev=DIR-825_revB

I guess I should have posted it in the 825 forum, but I figured there was others with the 825/1522 problem.
