Cannot access my DIR-655 remote management
« on: April 26, 2010, 08:03:17 PM »

Hello,
I am having trouble accessing my DIR-655 remote management screen via ip to my network.

To make sure i didnt have any odd settings, i did a hard reset on my router first.

I then enabled remote management, and left the default port 8080
I try to access viw the ip address on my status page suffixed by the port 8080
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080
page cannot be found.

I then enabled https and tried to access via:
https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8181

page cannot be found.

I then setup a entry in the virtual server to redirect http requests to my workstation hosting IIS7, if i connect to localhost, the iis welcome screen appears, but if i browse to my ip, i get nothing.

I am using Cox residential service, i called them and they informed me that they do not filter or block requests in any way.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

the ip at the end after reset is n.n.0.1

you used that?

Or did you also set new range??

It needs to be noted that once you are attempting to access a DIR router remotely, you must use the Internet IP address instead of the 192.168.1.1 address.

yes i am using my internet IP, the same ip that is listed on the status page of the router, not the 192.169.0.1 internal ip.

last night i setup the router as a dmz server in order to test further and redirected to my web server, i still was unable to connect.  This to me indicates that my hosting provider may be blocking my ip address?  Of course when i called they said that is not the case and they dont block or filter anything.

really lookin for ideas here.

will confirm tonight.

I've got a similar problem: Can't access the router from WAN to remote administer it.
Firmware Vers. 1.32NA

The modem is Westell A90-210014-04.  Doesn't appear to be anything except a bridge i.e. doesn't block anything.

Used Port 8080 for remote admin, didn't try other port numbers
Tried with disabled SPI and with TCP and UDP at ENDPOINT INDEPENDENT

Also I can ping the WAN address

Sigh......

I have got the exact same problem too!
I want to configure my DIR-655 from everywhere on the internet. I have Remote Management enabled with Port 8080. Nothin' works, tried different ports, turning off security...
Found nothing in the last three hours of googling but this, but it didn't work either:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-655/Remote_Administrator.htm

If this or anythingelse works for one of you, please let us know!

I also have this problem except I discovered that I can access the WAN IP Admin page from OUTSIDE my home network. I called tech support to see what they had to say and he logged into my router just fine. I do not understand what is going on here! I can't connect to my own IP address. Very weird.

Hi All,

Did anyone bother at all to read Help?

Quote
Enable Remote Management
Enabling Remote Management allows you to manage the router from anywhere on the Internet. Disabling Remote Management allows you to manage the router only from computers on your LAN.
Remote Admin Port
The port that you will use to address the management interface from the Internet. For example, if you specify port 1080 here, then, to access the router from the Internet, you would use a URL of the form: http://my.domain.com:1080/.
Remote Admin Inbound Filter
Select a filter that controls access as needed for this admin port. If you do not see the filter you need in the list of filters, go to the Advanced → Inbound Filter screen and create a new filter.

I have the same problem
No matter what do I set in the port, even 80, doesn't work
I have created inbound filter "allow all" and selected it
I do not use https
nothing works

I also set up virtual server for rdp to one of the computers, but i cannot get to it
I have network knowledge (CCNA) and it's not my first router (previous one was Linksys WRT54GL), but the first one I can't setup remote management or rdp thru it
(VPN pass-thru works fine from it)
Hardware Version: B1     Firmware Version: 2.03NA

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Try using port 8181
How are you inputing the address? Using the WAN IP address you get from the ISP?
Format should be http://##.##.###.###:8181

You don't need any form of filtering.
