Author Topic: HELP: Wireless Speed drops when streaming media to PS3 or occasionally  (Read 9017 times)

Hi all,

Well i recently started using PlayOn and whenever i started streaming, if at that time i had the max speed @ 270Mbps (I have a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card) everything is fine. Then speed will drop to between 11 to 27 Mbps and starts freezing.

I moved the router from the living room to the bed and run wires to the living room to another router (for a desktop and a second PS3 both connected through wired) then disable the wireless signal to avoid interference. The router (DGL-4500) is about 5 feet from my laptop and the PS3 is connected through wired connection. Even at times during casual browsing, will drop to 11Mbps even before i hooked up the second router. Copying video files over the networks is a nightmare now.

I have the latest FW installed, did a reset and everything. I need some serious help.

Also is a quick question do streaming media file require ports to be open?

Do anyone has a Dell Inspiron 1420 and has this issue.

Also under properties on the network card, what is the 40Mhz Intolerant? Should it be enable or disabled.

Thanks again

I guess nobody can help with this matter... This is by far the worst router i ever got for the price i paid and won't take it back or offer a replacement because i lost my receipt.

Anyways thanks for reading.  ;D

Does the same thing happen with a wired connection?

Wired connection seems a lot better that wireless. It might break just a couple of times.

How is your wireless network set up? Multi mode? 2.4 or 5Ghz? How about trying single mode G only at 2.4Ghz. See what happens then. Let us know.

The wireless is at 2.4 Ghz and N-mode only. Some times speed reads between 216/243 - 270 Mbps.

I will be trying the G-mode only and will report back.

Thanks

This has been the biggest problem I've had with the router. I've tried 5 or 6 different firmwares, changed the wireless modes, game fuel on/off, and a bunch of other random things on these forums and nothing has worked to fix this problem. I own 2 PS3s. One connects wired and can stream any movie without a problem ever. The other is connected via wireless and constantly has problems streaming properly.

I had my SSID hidden for a long time and the streaming problem was a lot worse. This the newest firmware and without my SSID hidden the wireless seems to work OK. I still get massive amounts of wireless errors and packet drops but it seems to freeze my media streaming a lot less.

The issue you are having is not likely linked to the settings at all if you have a newer version of firmware probably anything 1.2x it will be very bad compared to the old versions.

v1.22NA works great here. Ya, v1.21NA wasn't the best. Lets try to get things going on what is currently loaded 1st. Then if thing gets fix, then regress the FW.  ;)

Hi all,

I sent the router as 2.4 Ghz at G-mode only and streaming through the network was worst. Switch it back to n and g modes, then i was back to square 1. I just wonder why would a router that cost so much money be having so many issues and Dlink won't address or at least offer an exchange without a sale receipt.

Have you taken the 2nd router out of this network and use used the 4500 at this time? Well we can try this, save off your configuration file and you could send me it and I can load it on mine and see if there is any issues here. I can test it out on my Mac Book at various wireless modes and see. Send me a PM and we can go from there if your interested.
