I just received my DIR-825 today, and noticed the feature called "Guest Zone."  It seems very limited.  I do not use the DHCP service on the DIR-825, as I have my own internal server hosting DHCP.  Even if I didn't, there is no way to allocate a different IP sibnet for the Guest Zone.  So I'm still giving out an IP address from the same subnet the rest of my network is on.  Except, I don't have the DHCP server enabled on the DIR-825.  I wish the Guest Zone configuration screen had a way to configure another IP subnet, and DHCP range, so only those clients on the Guest Zone would be able to get Internet access.  I don't want guests to access my internal network.  Is this not possible at all?

No it is not.
The guest zone is routed directly to the WAN port. It can not reach your LAN.

Which really means yes, guest zone is separated from LAN...

The same as the remained of the local network; Guest Zone provides a very effective virtual wall

So that means the DIR-825 must have  DHCP enabled.  I have an internal server for that.  Why can't there be another DHCP server option for the Guest Zones within the DIR-825?

I don't think it needs to have DHCP enabled.  Use this example.

Your 825 LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1

You say you have another machine that is doing your DHCP.  So you tell it you want it to do DHCP from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199.

Assign your guest computer an IP address of 192.168.1.10

Assign the Guest Zone in the 825 to 192.168.1.10

the guest computer with IP 192.168.1.10 goes directly to the WAN, and cannot see your LAN.

Does that make sense?

Right, but do I really want to have people set static IP's every time they come over to use my Wireless LAN?  No.  Hence my suggestion to look into adding this feature.  Your suggestion is a workaround I would rather not use.

Then how am I getting DHCP addresses (from my LAN DHCP server) when I connect my PCs to the guest network?  It still doesn't work because the gateway is wrong but I'm working on that...

Also, someone want to explain why this looks like it has a few more useful options, but for a much older model?

On another note, this thread was locked: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5320.0 so I can't respond there but the conclusion was that since this is a HOME CLASS ROUTER we can't have DHCP only on the Guest VLAN. 

The suggestion was a DAP 2590.  Can you tell me what simultaneous dual band APs are available?  Because this HOME CLASS ROUTER seems to have an edge on that front.

I know plenty of people who run their own DHCP servers at home and the guest zone is perfect for a home setup if you could run DHCP from the router for the Guest Wireless only.  It seems like such a simple thing that has been on these forums over and over for quite some time.

Although I haven't tried it you could setup static IP addresses / gateways on your wireless guest computers... Or you could have a wireless client on the guest wireless with a static IP address running DHCP for the other systems that connect.

Edit:  In regards to your question, there could easily be multiple DHCP servers running on the DIR-825 if D-Link would release a decent firmware.  Or better yet, ditch theirs and go with a popular open-source one.

Regardless of the 655/855 being capable of delivering a guest zone in a multiple access point solution. There is clearly a demand for a solution to this problem.

The problem:

broad wireless coverage on the primary network (delivered by multiple access points) and simalar coverage provided to the guest zones without exposing the "primary" network to the guests.
