Hi, all

I want to upgrade my dir655 to dir825, but I saw a lot of user reviews online complaining the low strength of the 5GHz. I really want the 5GHz to stream my HD video without interfering my bluetooth keyboard and mouse. So, I want to know if the problem has been solved or getting better?

Nope, it gets worse! With latest NA/EU firmwares released a few days ago, I've noticed at least 3db lower signal strength on both bands (using a tunable multiband field strength meter).

However it still is on par (signal strength wise) with other "plastic" home routers. I was very disappointed from D-Link's wireless coverage so after reading all the glorious reviews I spent 150€ getting the Netgear WNDR3700. Believe it or not, the over hyped and overrated 3700 has been proved worse than my "weak" DIR-825. Same hardware, worse firmware, cheapo construction and even shorter wireless coverage.

So, I won't suggest you buy DIR-825 but honestly you can't yet find anything really better.

I recently upgraded from a DIR-655 to a DIR-825. Initially I was very disappointed with it, the firmware 2.02 was horrible. The 2.03NA is a vast improvement, 2.03 is far from perfect

• Statistics claims there are no dropped packets and no errors on either band. While-st I'd expect the 5ghz band numbers to be very low. There are a dozen 2.4ghz band networks  around me my DIR-655 reported large quantities of dropped packets
• The log doesn't seem to work very well with debug info off; everything seems to be considered DEBUG

After tinkering with antennae positions the positions of my DAP-1522's I finally achieved good signal and connection rates on 5ghz band (243-270M). I used the D-Link magnetic bases I had for 2.4ghz to relocate the 2.4/5ghz antennae from the router to a higher and better location. Don't expect the higher gain 2.4ghz ant to do any good though you do need to use the dual band antennae.

O-Kay... I thought the DAP-1522 antennae were internal ones... Guess I learn new things every day 
But you probably moved the DAP around, twisting and turning... Yep, that might help a little.

They are internal i.e. puny. Using an extension to move the DIR-825 antennae did the most good though. DLink should really consider something similar to the ant-24 yet specifically for dual band
