Is the DIR655 A4 able to assign IP addresses
« on: May 18, 2010, 10:03:05 PM »

I have a version A4 DIR655 and I am having problems assigning IP addresses to my computers. DHCP is on. Internet connects via dynamic ip (DHCP).

Strange behavior: All computers can connect if Internet Protocol properties are set as "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically."

If I try to assign static addresses to any of the computers I get a warning "multiple gateways..."

I am still using firmware V121.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Any machine that I want to have the same IP all the time, I use the DHCP Reservation in the Network Setup.  Saves the time of going around to each machine and entering the information manually.

Leave all the PC's on automatic and reserve IP in the router.
This will make them static as they will always have the same IP given to them from the router.

Thanks for the reply. Keeping all computers and devices on auto. Added names to Dlink655 reserved list.

That's what I was about to say. On the adding to the reserve list from the Setup tab.  My DNS-323 has done good since. If it starts giving me issues I probably will have to go static.

Hi Alcatraz001,

You need to log into your DNS-323 Settings and tell it what IP Address to use.
http://192.168.0.###/web/home/lan.asp?id=1980206

Then you need to also tell the Router the same Static IP Address to assign to the DNS-323.

http://192.168.0.1/Basic/Network.shtml

You also need to forward the port 21 to your FTP Server.

http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Virtual_Server.shtml

Read the DNS-323 Manual to see exactly what to do for setting up the DIR-655 to forward the port to the Server.

Can't you just let DNS-323 acquire from DHCP and set Router to set fixed IP alloc to MAC-address? I am not sure that first step is needed to get it a fixed IP-address from reserved router-set...

Just putting in my $0.02

Hi Mackerel,

No, especially if you are running a FTP Server. You can download the PDF Manual from D-Link Support for the DNS-323 and read it.
