Hello,

I have a DNS-323 with 2 1TB disks. I access DNS through Vista. I did not map the drives, but rather access to the drives using the network, i.e : \\DLINK-710D0C\Volume_1\blabla...

I did not create any users on the DNS. All my files created on the DNS are owned by user "nobody", group "501".

My question : is this situation a source of problem ? Of which kind if yes ?
Other question : does this prevent from using the backup utility (using "Download" button from the DNS web interface), to backup drive 1 onto drive 2 ?

You do not need to create users on your NAS if you don't want to. It will not cause a problem, the NAS is designed to operate that way. Users won't affect the backup operation either.

You're just running "wide open" if you run with no users or permissions set.  If you have no security worries about what's on the NAS from local users, it's probably the easiest way to use it.

I access to the DNS files on Vista via the network (not by mapping the DNS folders). May I have permissions problems if all files belong to user 'nobody' ?
