Loosing internet connectivity constantly
« on: June 12, 2010, 04:06:36 PM »

I have been using this router for about 3 weeks and i seem to lose connectivity to the internet for 5-10 mins or it could be a couple of hours at a time. This happens about 10 times a day.

I know this is a router problem as i can connect to the internet straight from the modem, but when the router is included, no internet.

When this happens I have tried another wireless pc and a wired pc and they have the same problem. I can log into the router no problems. I have tried resetting my router and modem and when they restart, still no internet through the router. I have turned off dst and no help. I have read a lot of other post but people with the same problem connecting to the internet can't connect to the router.

Please help!

If you use ADSL-modem make sure that is on "BRIDGE MODE"
otherwise you have to fight with double, NAT, DHCP and NAT.
You can't turn it off on DIR-655

Could be a cable modem, the OP didn't say how he/she was connected to the Internet.

My modem is a cable modem and my internet is wireless broadband.

I did speak to 2 tech support agents yesterday and one of them had me clone my mac address on the manual internet connection setup at the bottom of the page and that seems to stabilize my WAN statistics.

Have not had any internet dropouts in 17 hours. Will reply in a few days to comment on stability again.

Still having the same problems with wireless and LAN internet connections being dropped. Tech support no help so far. I have found another customer with the same problem on dslreport who was having the same problem and dlink finally sent him a new router, but he did not report back to say if that fixed the problem. There was also someone on this forum that had this problem on like page 125?? Dlink sent him a new router and that seemed to fix his issues.

Thinking of getting a netgear wndr3700 router as if I let dlink replace my router I am stuck with it. Not sure I want to keep it with my problems.

If my router did a face plant, the Netgear WNDR3700 is definitely the router I'd go with...

Yea, I have been seeing some great reviews for it and they already got some betas of dd-wrt. I contacted dd-wrt and they cannot create firmware for the dir-655. Too many people are complaining about dlink firmware and the Netgear WNDR3700 already uses open-wrt firmware.

Only thing that sucks for me is that i purchased 3 TP-Link 2.4GHz Omni-Directional 8dBi Indoor Antennas and will not be able to use them with this netgear router.

If you don't need 5Ghz band I recomended, ASUS RT-N16 with external antennas and NETGEAR WNR 3500L. L for 3rd parts firware on that model.

To handle this problem, I have done this:

1. Default router.
2. Install v1.34NA firmware.
3. Configure for 300Mps (see sticky).
4. Turn off Daylight Savings, set time manually.
5. Turn off SecureSpot.

I was complainging that v1.34 was still losing internet, but, I forgot to disable SecureSpot.
I did that last Friday.
So far no downtime noticed, even with high usage this weeked.

I hope this helps.

I did not have DST on and I had Secure Spot disabled. Was not just losing wireless, was losing wired connections to but still able to get internet direct from modem. Could always connect to the router's log in page. I had even gone ahead and downgraded my firmware to 1.21 without Secure Spot and no better.

I went ahead and returned my dir-655 for a NetGear WNDR37000 and no problems so far (Only using for an hour). The WNDR3700 has internal antennas and at the 2.4 GHz range beats the dir-655 using 3 8 dBi high gain antennas for range and throughput. The WNDR3700 is not in the same class as the dir-655 as it is a simultaneous dual band router. But the 5 GHz range is even stronger for me then the 2.4 GHZ range is. I was surprised by this as everyone says the the 5 GHz is not as strong.

Can't wait till they get a stable release of DD-WRT firmware for this router. Should make it even better. DD-WRT cannot support the dir-655 and I am happy not to have to stuck with dlink's firmware.

So far very happy with my new router.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my thread
