I have tried to change firmware from dlink to DD-WRT for the first time for DIR-615-E4 using Emergency Room Interface. I upload the file "dir615e4-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin" and press submit, then I saw on router, globe button and 4 LAN leds lights up and then the webpage was showing as still loading, but I saw no activity on my LAN port, so I thought the update is successful, then I unplug the power and power-on, but after then I cannot get the LAN working or cannot even reset or get back Emergency Room Interface.

Please help me getting my router back to its factory firmware or to DD-WRT. Thanks for all helps.

Try the FW update Sticky information listed there. Thats for OEM FW.

Did you download 18024 version? If yes, then you need to get 18007 instead. 18024 has problems.

You can try "From the router's Emergency Room Web interface" procedure and upload 18007 or stock firmware. You can try 30/30/30 reset first.

I don't recommend using the latest 2012. firmwares either (18687 & 18740), both prevent LAN ports from working.

EDIT: 18777 is working fine.

EDIT 2: Port-forwarding doesn't work with 18777, nor does MAC filtering. I wouldn't suggest using this firmware.

I'm wondering the same thing now, What's the most stable and none bricking Version for a DIR-615 C1 and E1 that still keeps the lights work as like they should?

I'm using 18007 for months now, never had stability issues. Only thing is that Port forwarding seems to be screwed up.

@Skello:  Thank you, thank you, thank youy!  Just out this on a DIR-615 hardware C1 and this does what I need! 

As it happened, I had problems loading the firmware with Safari on Mac OS/X, but Firefox worked instead.  (I couldn't get the emergency backdoor to work.)

Hello everyone,

Reading this forum one can only reach one conclusion - that people are unhappy with the factory firmware supplied by D-Link for its DIR-615 routers. Which is sad, because in terms of hardware, DIR-615 is a solid product, capable of good performance.

It's true that some problems are solved with a firmware update, when one is available, but more often than not, users are stuck with issues that severely impact their Internet experience and no fix in sight. However, before starting throwing routers out and spending money on new ones (yes, I've read a lot of people saying that), users should be aware that there is another option at their disposal, in the form of a custom open source firmware called DD-WRT.

FYI: I downloaded /others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/06-08-12-r19342/dlink-dir615c1 - and my needs are for a plain-jane access point that doesn't step in the way of IPv6 (like the C1/3.01 firmware does.)  My router needs are being taken care of by a FreeBSD box (I've got an IPv6 prefix from the HE.NET IPv6 tunnel broker.)

And the idea of playing with the firmware myself is very, very appealing - even if I end up not doing that.  Geek bling.

Is there DD-WRT for H1. When I try to upload version for E4, I got message: "Invalid image file.seconds"
Is there any way to upload DD-WRT on this router.

I have been trying to get a DIR-615 E3 to operate in Client Bridge mode connecting to a D-Link DIR-655 router with D-Link firmware (DD-WRT does not work on the 655).  I have been unsuccessful thus far using DD-WRT build 17201 on my 615 E3.  I know the box worked fine when I got it as I actually tired it out as a regular router. 

Below is a link to my latest post in another of the forum sites here...  it contains a detailed explanation of my situation and a graphic that I can't seem to find a way to post here.

Some people have suggested that I need to have WDS operating on the bridge, but I see no reason why that should be necessary, and WDS is not supported on the D-Link 655 router. 

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

WDS and Bridging is not supported on the 655. If you want to have 2 bridgeable APs, I would recommend getting a Dlink DAP model device that supports AP, Bridging or Relay modes. DAP-1360, 1522, 1525 or 1533 support these modes. I don't think the 1525 supports Relay though. You could have one wired on the back end of the 655 and then bridged to the 615 if you can get it to connect using WRT.

I appreciate your response, but....  for the rest of the folks with perhaps similar problems, there is still a basic question:  Is WDS required for effective bridging in DD-WRT.??   And if so, does this apply to all types of bridging, or just the specific Client Bridge model I have attempted to implement.??
