New Dir-655
« on: June 16, 2010, 05:49:08 AM »

I just got a new Dir-655.  It looks like A4 1.32NA.  I have read the horror stories about shareport.  What is the best way to set this router up?  Would it be to not select shareport during installation if that's even an option?

In my opinion, RETURN it.  The DIR routers may still have the Securespot "junk" still in it.  This renders the router utterly useless since the Securespot "settings" tend to always be on, even when off.

Isn't the new firmware (1.34NA) suppose to fix some of the issues?  Also, do I need to use the cd that comes with it or can I just loin to the router and set everything up manually?

I am not sure of the firmwares.  Securespot is the "bane" of most Securespot enabled D-Link routers.

Yes, you can "ignore" the included CD.  It just provides a Windows "application" to access, configure and maintain the router settings.  It is much better to do this direct in the router's own web pages.
