have a dir655 and a dir625, anyway to use the dir625 as a range extender?  guessing hard wired...settings?  wireless would be nice?

Port LAN to LAN

Turn off. DHCP, FIREWALL(NAT), UpnP and broadcast.

Same SSID and password frase on both. 
Use channel 1-6-11 in NA or 1-7-13 in EU.
Then the unit roaming between your roters.
