Dosborne, could you tell me where do you read the temp of the drives?

The "status" page in the admin console.

[edit: To be clear, again, these are the "box" temps, not the "drive" temps]

The "status" page in the admin console.

Ops, I thought it was de temperature reported by the drives, not the NAS temperature.  ::)

That's using fun_plug and a script to read the drive temperatures I would expect.  It's not available for the DNS-323 in the GUI.

The info I extract into a log every hour is from the status page which includes the temperature, size and space remaining. I have a perl script that captures the pages and formats the info for archiving.

If you run fun_plug though, you can access the S.M.A.R.T. HDD information and get the temperature of the drives as opposed to the overall unit temp.

I don't know what device you're looking at, but the GUI status page on my DNS-323 with firmware 1.08 does NOT include the temperature of the drives, just the box temperature.

Please re-read my posts :) I've added some clarification.

I never said (or did not mean to imply) the status page showed the drive temp. I said it was the box temp. I did say the drive temp was available though via fun_plug and SMART if desired and assuming the HDD's have SMART capability and you install the tools.

:)

Thanks for the clarification.  Since the DNS-321 has SMART data, I can't imagine why the DNS-323 can't have it in the GUI.  ???

Finally I did Gunrunnerjohn's modification yesterday and for sure it is now much better. Before, the airflow behind the fan was almost stopped with the cover on. Now, it is much better.

Still too hot for my likes on daytime with the fan on manual-high, but OK on nighttime. Now I will try to install smart and see the real deal of the drives.

Where did you find an installable SMART for the DNS-323?

This fun_plug distribution has an additional package for smart:

According to this, looks like it works:
