DAP-1522 AP and bridge firmware problem.
« on: June 28, 2010, 05:48:55 PM »

I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with firmware 1.21 on a DAP-1522 as a brigde.

I have a DAP-1522 connected to my router as an Access Point for wireless-N at 5GHZ (this was updated to FW 1.21)

1. I purchased a new DAP-1522 to use as a bridge (it came with FW 1.02). I was able to easily connect it as a bridge to the AP. When I upgraded the bridge firmware to 1.21 it would not connect anymore. So long story short, I reverted the FW back to 1.02 and it has been working ever since with no problems.

2. I needed an other bridge for another location in the house so I got another DAP-1522. This one came with FW 1.21. Once it was configured it would not connect to the AP either. So I changed the FW to 1.02 and it connects and stays connected with no problem.

3. This same thing happened with a 3rd DAP-1522 (it came with 1.21). Connects with FW 1.02, does not connect to AP with FW 1.21.

Also I tried FW 1.10 and 1.20 on th e bridges, and those FW version have the same problem.

I have not seen any other posts with this issue.
If anyone has any insight on possible solutions, that would be appreciated.

I think I might not have been clear. The problem I am having is not with a browser connecting to the bridges. It is that when I upgrade the firmware on any of the bridges to anything above version 1.02 the bridge will not connect to the access point.

I can still connect with the browser to the bridge but the bridge itself will not connect to the AP.

This only happens when the firmware is upgraded on the 1522's that are used as bridges. FW version everything is fine. Upgrade the firmware and the bridges cease to connect.

any ideas?

lfount, you inspired me momentarily.  I am trying to get a DAP-1522 bridge to connect to another DAP-1522 AP and it just won't work for me.  I get a "4-way handshake failure."  I downgraded my bridge to firmware 1.02 and that didn't fix my problem.

What security are you using?  I'd be curious to see all of your settings.  This feels like firmware defects.

This should be easy to setup but it's beyond me for the moment.  Maybe I should use CAT5!

oops, never mind.  I am now at firmware 1.21 and my DAP-1522 bridge is connecting to my DAP-1522 AP.  It helps if you use the correct passphrase.  I'm using WPA.

Ifount, I have four 1522s as bridges to a DIR=825.  One of the bridges doesn't always propagate NETBIOS information for some reason (I can change the actual device, that's not the problem).  All of them use the silly 1.21 version of the firmware (why did D-Link put out a defective firmware release?  Are they competing with Apple on the iPhone 4?).  I'm wondering if I should find the 1.02 firmware and "downgrade" to "upgrade" my NETBIOS situation.  Any ideas?

After weeks of useless attempts the solution I came up with is: buy a Linksys WET610N, use the DAP-1522 as a gigabit switch and wait for a new firmware to come.

My DAP-1522 with fw 1.21:
- under firefox wireless settings are not displayed (and linux does not have IE)
- every day or so the DAP disconnects from the (2,4GHz) network and simply "disappears"
- with encryption (WPA2-personal, AES) enabled the bridge would not connect to a 5GHz network (4-way handshake problem, all security parameters are correct)
- with encryption disabled the bidge connects to 5GHz network but with no internet access
- wireless speeds and reception are poor (weak received signal, also in the 2,4GHz band)

D-Link supports tells me that "consumer" grade D-Link products are not guaranteed to work with other brand devices (!?)
I may have insisted too much asking for support (I was a customer, my device didn't work ... guess what) but, aren't these devices supposed to use internationally agreed standards?
