Hi All,

I have Hardware Revision A3 and Firmware 1.21 w/ SecureSpot. SecureSpot is not enabled. Anyway on http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Firewall.shtml I have available to me the Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration

I got my friend to get the DIR-655 and purchased it from Amazon.com and it is Hardware Revision B1.
Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration is missing. On the other hand, it has http://192.168.0.1/adv_link_local.asp IPv6 ----IPv6 CONNECTION TYPE and LAN IPv6 ADDRESS SETTINGS : settings available for the User.

So those who have Hardware Revisions A1 through A4 will lose the Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration, if they install Firmware Version 2.0 or higher.

Not necessarily since nobody knows if or when there will be a version 2.0 for rev. A

The manual for B1 states the ALG is still there on the firewall page.

has anyone had a chance to verify if the b1's solve any outstanding dir-655 A-series problems with 1.34 or if the A-series with 1.34 is still the best version 655 to use?

Kind of seen this coming, so I returned my DIR-655 A4 for a DIR-825 B1, the DIR-825 B1 is great, but the wireless range is half of the DIR-655. I even turned off the 5 GHZ radio in the DIR-825 and put better antennas on it, the improvement was only a marginal gain in coverage.

If the DIR-655 B1 supports IPV6 and has the same powerful transmitters as the older A1-A4 series and you don’t need the 5 GHZ, the DIR-655 is the way to go!

I will be interested to hear feedback on the B1 hardware! I have no need for 5 GHZ, that is the band my cordless phones use.

The DIR-825 is the only “N” AP I have. Now I wished I would have measured the power out of the old A4 (at the antenna port) that I had so I could have compared it to the DIR-825.

I think my FCC licenses allow me several hundred watts on 2.4 Ghz, but that is kinda like an Alligator, all teeth and no ears…… Nothing like wiping out half the city to talk with a device 30 meters away!

Any word on this new version supporting IPV6 and how is the range? ???

Hi Cobra,

The manual is wrong.

Click here  It is a PDF File of the Firewall page of the B1 Firmware.

That is the Firewall Page on the B1 version.

I got new DIR-655 with H/W B1 and F/W 2.00NA. Local Best Buy has both of them on sale at same price. The newer one (H/W B1) has blue box and the old one has orange box. Here is what I found from the boxes:

    - They have same UPC code: 7-90069-29856-1
    - They have same model No: DIR-655
    - The blue box has H/W Ver: B1 and F/W Ver:2.00NA
    - The orange box  has H/W Ver: A4 and F/W Ver:1.34NA
    - The pictures in orange box shows the router has one more LED Light.

I went the newer version hoping the hardware has been improved and better F/W support.

The installation is very smooth. I tested with a Dell Latitude E6400. The wireless connection properties shows it has 270M. (I did not do real test) I am very satisfied.

In the admin interface, there is IPV6 item. So I guess it does support IPV6

It seems the router has some sort of Linux on it, since I can found /etc/resolve.conf, /etc/host, etc in th log.

Any one in this forum knew what is new for hardware B1 and confirm this router has linux in it?

All DIR655 are based on Linux.... :P

The only 'problem' is that it is a propriety version they use.

Thanks for confirm. I hope someone someday will be able add more features to it. Currently I own DNS-323, which is linux based. There quite few third party add-on.

"Propriety" means the code is locked and encrypted. So unless Ubicom makes it Open Source there is no change to that at all. Sorry for the bad news  8)

Received a B1 with 2.00 yesterday from Amazon.  So far - EXCELLENT!  I previously owned an A4 but had to return it to the seller because it was awful (GUI locking up for no good reason, slow wifi, etc.).

Took a chance on the B1 (at a great price of $69.99 free shipping) and am glad I did!

Am pulling most of my provisioned FIOS speeds throughout the house WIRELESSLY.  Streaming video using PS3 Media Server flawlessly.

I also got a B1 to replace an A3 (for the IPV6 support mostly) but have had to put the A3 back in because of VOIP issues (I have two VOIP TA's that each use two ports, since I put in the B1 they have not been working very well, lines drop for no reason, incoming calls don't always connect, etc.). I also have an odd issue with Windows Home Server connector not working on a wirelessly-connected PC (using an SMCWEB-N wireless bridge). Finally the wireless radio seems to cut out sporadically. All in all too unstable for production use, at least in my case. Hoping a future firmware will improve it, but for now its been relegated to the closet.

Can anyone tell me if I save my configuration file to my hard disk using a Version A3 dir-655 could I successful load that configuration on the new version B of the 655. I know this seems like a crazy request, but I have the A3, and I want to buy my dad the 655 , which will be a vB, and he needs help with configuration, so I thought I would just set mine up the way his should be and save the file and send it to him.  We live far apart.  thanks

I don't think it will work, but you might as well try and see.  If all else fails you can always use the button on back to reset to factory default.

Man, I must be the AARP/Dinosaur of the DIR-655.  I have the A1 version.  But, you know what, it works great for me.  I use it with the DWA-552 and I never seem to have a problem.  Knock on simulated wood veneer.   ;D
