I didn't mean to insinuate that all 16-19 year olds are immature. I meant that there seems to be a new generation of gamers who are taking the easy way. I know certain gamer that have 100k sub youtube channels that barley know how to turn their computers or consoles on. If you put so much effort into your hobby, its a insult not to take the time to learn the fundamentals. I see the general attitude leads to bad manners, no teamwork, and sometimes even cheating. They are like the bad kids in the first Karete kid movie. ::chuckle:: All power, no thought.

Kids now days are less controlled an disciplined by there parents. I feel that sometimes, there parents are way to oblivious to what they kids are doing on line and gaming or the parents might not care to what goes on. They give them what they want to keep them occupied, busy or quiet for the parents. I feel this leads to uncontrolled behavior towards others and this leads to a misconception on the part of kids thinking they can behave like this in the real world. There in for a "RUDE PERSON" awakening.  My 2 cents.

I'll take that a step further and suggest that most kids today have parents that grew up playing arcade, PC, and console games. And of those kids, a good number of them have parents that still play PC/console games, laying the foundation for appropriate behavior through mimicry. That said, kids aren't necessarily introduced into gaming from comradery and teamwork with their peers. To them, gaming is just another toy to be used and abused.

Has anyone else had the misfortune of being on some of the "Hardcore Gamer" forums where 16-19year old gather to brag about how "leet" they are and how much gamer score they have? Which I wouldn't mind, except when you actually try to talk to them, and find out how little they actually know about the game, their hardware, and the systems behind the games they play. Since when has the label of nerd and geek been allowed to be so watered down by these lazy minded types? Am I being too harsh? What is everyone else's thoughts? Show me the light, because I am starting to feel separated from my own gamer brothern.

Yeah Harry it is best not go on those forums, everyone is rocking 2+ KDR, are "1337" (Elite) and know everything already.  All they do is complain and talk trash!  Those forums are usually full of trolls.
If you ever decide to play COD on XBL, you can add me and also check out my clan for 30+ year olds.  I don't play with them all that much since they usually play at night and I am more of day gamer.

Ya, XS is good man and do enjoy playing. 

Why have a similar group I play with. Nothing official just a good group of friends I've collected over the years. It's nice to play with people older that can have fun, play like a team and enjoy with out the immaturity getting in the way.

What would make WiFi transmitters become weak at broadcasting a signal?

Now, I know that a power surge can fry it but what about just wearing out?  I guess I'm thinking that since there are no moving parts and are just electrons flowing around, it seems like routers, modems, etc. should last forever.

I do realize that solder can become brittle and crack due to temperature fluctuation but what about the circuitry itself?

Electronic components can lose efficiency or fail. For example, if capacitors are exposed to excessive heat, are improperly seated on the board, or aren't receiving the correct voltage they can cause electronic devices to behave erratically and eventual fail altogether.

Unfortunately my wireless Juniper SSG-5 had a MTBF of 22.8 years, but the wireless only lasted about 4 years..  They need to update their information.  

I figure wireless cards have a life span around 4-5 years (From what I've experienced so far).  Your mileage may vary.

Before committing to D-Link, I had three Netgear routers (all the same model) die on me within 3 years. . . not a good track record - very low mileage.

Depending on how long the 4500 lasts, I might be a faithful D-Link customer for now on.  For the price I paid for it, I would like at least 2-3 years out of the wireless portion.  If I get that, then I am 'sold' on D-Link.

Does anyone own a D-Link wireless router older than 3 years (And the wireless signal is strong)?

Well then.. I picked a great model!!  I feel much better now.  Curious, what firmware are you running on it?  You said one of your 4500's (I know you have multiple), What is the function of this 4500?  Wireless repeater?  Bridge?

I have my DGL-4500 sitting elevated on a wire-latticed "cube" along with my modem.  So it's getting air circulation from all sides, basically.  It's never above 76 degrees in the room that it's in, either, so I'm hoping that heat dissipation will extend the life of the unit.

Edit to add: I wonder... if lead solder were reintroduced would it would have a positive effect on longevity?  I know it's toxic but man, both it's malleable and conductive properties are great.
