That's good to know about Netgear products...

I wouldn't shoot down Netgear products altogether as I've only experienced issues with their routers. Netgear offers a solid line of NAS and media player products.

 Nice find I was looking into buying the Asus black diamond, but I might as well hold on and see how this one does.

I noticed on my wireless adapter that my speed is jumping from 300mpbs to 216 to 180, etc.  

I never seem to lose connection but is this normal?  I'm on the 5.2GHz band and am about 15 feet from the router.  It's not our beloved 4500, btw.

I have the latest driver installed.

I used inSSIDer 2.0 and there are no other 5.2GHz signals being broadcast in our area.

EDIT: I changed the client Channel Width from "Auto" to 20MHz and it's at 130Mbps but is stable and not jumpy.

Is your network in close proximity to other competing wireless networks, wireless transmitters, or devices that could cause interference? This could lower your throughput.

If I scan using inSSIDer there are a bunch of 2.4GHz bands, probably about 9.  Most are very weak but still showing up and some of those will fade in and out of reception.

I'm in NYC and face this issue every day. Neighboring networks and electronic devices in very close proximity, you name it.  My throughput routinely fluctuates.

I'm scanning for wireless networks now and detect 57 networks ranging from very strong to very weak. Every time I refresh the list grows longer.

Wow!  That's insane.  It makes me wonder if these radio waves are doing anything to our bodies/brains.

Watch, they'll find out that Autism is due to the increased amount of wireless transmissions over the years.

OK, I set the router's settings to "Auto" instead of 40MHz broadcast and now it's more stable, varying from 300Mbps to around 243.

The fact that the fixed frequency fluctuated indicates some interference, else the signal would remain stable.

...Most of the networks I'm picking up are insanely weak, but there are a good 10-20 that are fairly strong. One of the tradeoffs of living and working in large skys****ers.

EDIT: skys****ers = "apartment buildings"... D-Link does a great job censoring benign words
