DAP-1522 Push Button Setup Bridge Mode
« on: August 12, 2010, 06:42:42 PM »

I am having a considerable amount of trouble with this device beginning with initial setup.
In the Quick Installation Guide it says to connect it to a power supply. It does not say anything about connecting anything else. It then says to check status by the orange blinks in bridge mode. It then says to push button on the right hand side to initiate a secured wireless connection. My unit only blinks six times and then stops. Therefore I can proceed no further. Is this supposed too happen?
However if I plug in an ethernet cable and connect it to a computer it will then continue to flash and when I push the button on the side I have to be very lucky to get it to make a wireless connection.
I had the unit in operation for about two months and then it lost the connection and I was unable to get the unit to do anything. It was sent back to D-Link and they returned it to me saying no fault was found.
I have tried the reset button - most of the time nothing happens.
The orange bridge flashes sometimes, other times it doesn't flash but shines continuously and other times not on all.
If I change the Static IP setting to Dynamic (DHCP) it always reverts back to Static.
It is working at the moment after many, many attempts.
Does my particular unit have some sort of intermittent problem or is this just the way they are?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Suggest you use the DAP 1522 manual instead of the quick setup.
The DAP 1522 setup wizard works great.  I first used the button and had no success.
Do you have the DIR 655 or similar?  I think if your router has WPS you should not have a problem.

The manual is not much help either unless you have Internet Explorer - the web interface doesn't work properly with any other browser.
Too bad they can't get the correct information in the Quick Setup Guide.
I have a Netgear router with WPS and following the QIG to the letter the Push Button Setup method doesn't work.
You then spend a frustrating amount of time trying different switch settings on the back, reseting the unit over and over and then you discover an ethernet cable MUST BE CONNECTED.
Talk about RTFM!! What is the point if the instructions are wrong to begin with?
