I configured the old linksys manually exactly the same way I did with this one. I tried everything and spent an hour on the phone with my ISP. I think something has to be wrong with my router, I'm just going to return it for a new one. I gave it my best shot. Thanks for the help, though.

Small update. As I mentioned earlier, I live outside the states and I just found out that sending this back to the states would cost me $110 with the "cheapest" good courier service( I wouldn't dare send it by normail mail since I am pretty much assured it would never reach it's destination).

So basically, it would cost me nearly the price of the router to send it back. I have two options, buy a new DGL-4500 and risk having the same phantom problem or just go another route(no pun intended) and buy another brand.

I'm not going back to Linksys, so I decided to buy a Bufallo Technology WZR-HP-G300NH, from which I've heard lots of great things in gaming forums and it also has a factory provided DD-WRT firmware.

Buffalo isn't bad, but be careful of "factory provided". Its like "factory applied" thermal paste on a heat sink, its always better off to remove and put on the real thing. And since its free...its a win win. But yea, Linksys, Buffalo and Asus are the three main brands you hear about on the forums. Asus is a good brand, but they haven't yet jumped in with both feet into the networking world.

BTW, where did you buy the 4500? If it falls under the manufacture warranty, can they except exchange through a local D-link approved vendor?

That last part got a chuckle out of me. I bought it from Amazon.com, and since I live in central america, even if there is a local authorized D-Link distributor, they only had a few of the low end models and they would never accept a device I bought from the States.

One of the disadvantages to living here, but at least there are tons of hot latin women, and a night out here is pretty damn cheap compared to the states.  ;)

LOL. Yea, I was kind of thinking that as I typed it. Oh well, I will trade hot women for a router any day of the week. Speaking of which..are there ANY women on these board? If so then I appologise..but the day that isn't true were all in trouble.

Back on track, it still sucks. I have some friends that live in the Netherlands, New Zealand, even someone that lived on some super small chain of islands off of Africa that had one cell phone to run the entire towns ISP and he was trying to game off that connection. Doh! We called him blinkey, because we would be playing with him and he would just  of the screen.
