Losing internet connection, but display says otherwise
« on: September 16, 2010, 11:29:28 AM »

So I just got a new DIR655.  Hooked it up and finally got it to connect to the cable modem.  All worked great...for about 1 hour. Then none of the computers had internet connection (WIFI, or wired).  They all connected to the network fine, and I could get to the router, but no internet access.  I go into the router and look at STATUS.  Status shows it is connected!

I unplug the router and leave it for a minute.  Plug it back in and internet is back on.  This has done this 3 times this month.

I am on firmware 1.34a.

Anyone have any ideas?

Same problem here after I upgraded my A3 from 1.21 to 1.34 2 weeks ago. The router is about 2 yrs old. ... the problem was only on my N-wireless Netgear WNDA3100 V1 adapters.  My G clients were fine. Would lose internet access after about 30-40 minutes.  I tried every combination I could think of and then solved my problem this way: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4165406&CatId=2668

Obviously not the preferred solution, but better than replacing my adapters.

Just like you, the adapter said that I was connected to the internet, I had local LAN access and I could access the router, but when trying to get to a webpage, no luck.  I'd be interested in a solution.

So you replaced the router in general?  :o

Interesting thing for me... I only have it on G networks right now and it is doing it on WIFI and LAN line...

Ugh.  Perhaps I should revert firmware to a previous version?

(Intranet is fine..)

I hope I can find a solution without changing my router.

What speed/make/model/verion/firmware are you running for client adapters? Example, my sleeping sickness problems occurred with netgear wnda3100 version 1 running the latest f/w and operating at 2.4GHz on N wireless.  My 3 G clients (all built in to laptops) continued to work fine.

Are you running N or G mode? Is there a mix of devices? Are they all losing I-net access?

BTW I took the replacement DIR-655 Version B1 back yesterday.  Didn't even open the box.  The WNDR3300 is working very well right now.  I miss some of the DIR-655 features, though.

Next time that happens, double check the Router Status and see if it is picking up an IP address from the modem, or if the IP is 0.0.0.0

Hmmm odd...
