DIR-655 routing problem
« on: September 17, 2010, 03:44:34 AM »

Hi!
I'm connected to internet trough my campus PPPoE. The internet works fine, but I can't seem to connect to my campus man-network.

I'm trying to set up a new routing rule where Destination IP is: 10.0.0.0, Netmask: 255.0.0.0 and Gateway: 10.112.0.1, but I get an error that states: "Destination and Gateway should not reside on the same subnet 10.0.0.0". Also, if I try to change the gateway address to anything else, I get: "Route gateway IP x.x.x.x is not in interface subnet".

My hardware version is A4 and firmware version is 1.31EU.

Any help would be very much appreciated, this is giving me a headache.

That's one huge destination. Can you provide more details ? Like what are you trying to accomplish ?

All data from the internet and campus man-network moves through the same ethernet-port. I'm trying to create a route for all those data packets that are going to campus network and not in the Internet (all the computers in that network are addressed 10.*.*.*). The gateway in my earlier message was wrong, 10.119.0.1 is correct and it responds to router ping.

Here is what I have tried recently:

-Tried to create a route to all computer in the campus-network
Destination IP: 10.0.0.0
Netmask: 255.0.0.0 (tried also different masks with no success)
Gateway: 10.119.0.1,
Error: "Destination and Gateway should not reside on the same subnet 10.0.0.0".

-Tried to create a direct route to my friends server in the campus-network
Destination IP: 10.112.0.30
Netmask: 255.255.255.255 (tried also different masks with no success)
Gateway: 10.119.0.1,
Error: "Route gateway IP 10.119.0.1 is not in interface subnet".
