Thinkpad Wireless Reception Issues

Interesting issue.
I have two laptops on my DIR-615 wireless (HardWare Ver: B2 - FirmWare Ver 2.23)

One, the newer Ativa seems to always connect wirelessly, fine and strong regardless of where it's located within or without the house.
The other, the older Thinkpad, will occasionally lose the signal (even when operating right next to the Ativa) and absolutly refuse to find it regardless of where it's placed in the house including right next to the fargin router.

I've never ascertained why that occures and have simply attributed it to antena issues in the IBM Thinkpad.
Anybody ever have/resolve this issue?

What is the IBM running for a wireless NIC?

Start> Run> NCPA.CPL>Right click wireless network connection, left click properties > Copy from "Connect Using" field.

It could be a setting the advanced options, but I suspect your instinct is right. If your new laptop is G, and your old is B, then its probably a band issue. You can start tweaking some things, like CTS legacy support or setting it to a static channel, but at a cost to performance on the new laptop. May be minimal loss, but most likly some loss.
