Frequent Connection Drops
« on: October 05, 2010, 05:46:52 PM »

Hi!

I am running a brand new D-Link DGL-4500 and a DIR-825 connected together.  The DGL is upstairs, connected to my new Linksys DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem (50+ mbps), and the DIR is downstairs.  I have configured the DIR so it is just an access point.  And yes, it is operating on a different band, with a different SSID.

Both are extremely fast, and work really well (When they are working).  But when the network starts getting clogged up (My brothers X360, my computer, and the light surfing my parents do), the connection will just drop out.  This happens about once every hour or so, and it takes about 2 minutes before it starts working again (Without me rebooting the routers or anything).

I have noticed that a few other people on these boards have been having the same problem as me.  I know something is up with the router, because when I plug directly into the modem, it works fine.

If anyone could give me any suggestions on how to fix this problem, I would appreciate it very much.  It is such a pain to be fragging and then get kicked from the game, or worse, to be playing an MMO and being to afraid of fighting anything because I might get lagged out and die.

Thanks!

What firmware is loaded on the 4500? What wireless modes and bands are you using?

Yea, I think someone else was on here having a simular issue connecting his 4500 to his 4300 so he could run 2.4 and 5Ghz at the same time. I will hunt the link and edit this post.
