Shareport problem with Router perhaps?
« on: December 14, 2010, 07:28:53 AM »

After installing Shareport on my DIR 655 I selected the "USB NETWORK" option on the router and plugged a Hitachi USN External HDD into it.  The pretty blue light came right on, and I installed the client end of the software per instructions on my WINXP PRo Laptop, said yes when the install asked to add it as an exclusion to the firewall and after several reboots of both the router and the PC still see "no deviced detected" when I launch the app.   Is there something I'm missing with this?  I've also tried connecting several different USB HDDs to the router.  They all make the blue light come on, but I still get "no devices detected" in the app.   I even downloaded the old version of the app made by SX (the original maker of Shareport) as recommended by someone on the forum, and get the exact same results.

A router setting I'm missing perhaps?

Is it a powered HDD or does it take the power from USB? The USB connection in the router does not provide enough power to power a HDD.
