DNS-323 setup
« on: December 16, 2010, 10:28:54 AM »

??? Does DNS stand for do not service?

I've called India for the last time, all I get is someone who has the worst accent and can NOT answer a question with out say I'm sorry.

I don't need apologies I need service and for my product to work!

I bought this piece of Chinese plastic and two 1TB HDD for a cost of over three hundred dollars and all I get is bad accents and no service and disconnects while waiting for answers.

Easy Search? you got to be kidding me, it never works!

If it's this hard to setup how will it ever perform?

Waste of time and money!

Maybe if you describe the problem you are having someone here can help you.

Is there power to the unit?
What is it connected to?
Are you running a DHCP server?

As someone else said on this site recently
Aggressive attitude is not the way to get help here

You do have your firewall set to a high enough number on the ip addresses dont you punk?
Did you go to 192.168.0.5 or to 192.168.0.6.
Did you check your router too?
Well did yuh?
Do you know what ip the DNS defaults to?
Read the manual yet?

Being the most powerful handgun . . . sorry wrong forum

If you want help, explain the problem.

It seems to me that you may be trying to run Easy Search on a Mac and the DNS-323 has a firmware level of 1.07.  When I purchased and installed a DNS-323 in May/June of last year I encountered similar issues.  Life got better when I used a Windows XP system.  It got even better when I upgraded the firmware to 1.08.

I found this list to be very helpful when I told them my environment and my specific problem.  The answers were not always what I wanted to to hear, but things have gotten better.

Peace

A direct connection to PC's LAN port does only work if you use a Crossover cable. It MAY work with a standard 1:1 cable if your PC has a fully autosense network port which support both cable types, independent of the port on the other side.

Does your router recognize the DNS-323 and hands over an IP adress? Means, the LAN port works (not disabled), the router's security settings allow new devices and the router has enough IP's left to assign.

UPnP does not *configure* the network, UPnP *needs* an already-working network configuration. All devices in the network share their capabilities via UPnP protocols - if UPnP is activated (it's turned off by default in windows).

The "Easy Search" utility is just a frontend tool to create network shortcuts on your PC. It works only if the DNS-323's network connection works AND if your firewall doesn't block the network access.

If you put in the HDs and turn on the device for the first time, the DNS-323 initializes itself and the two HD's. This can last a while (you have 2 1TB HD's ...) and might not result in the correct setup you want. But the DNS-323 needs a start.

Hope this helps you with the start.
