Newbie Setting up with a MT882 ADSL modem
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:38:38 AM »

Just purchased a D-Link 825 to replace an ageing old wireless "G" router. As you all know the D-Link 825 does not come with a ADSL modem built in so I've gone to install it today with (my ISP sent) a talktalk Smartax MT882 ADSL modem connected to the 825 via an ethernet cable connection.

Upto now though I've been unable to get it working. On using he D-Link software to set it all up I've tried both PPPOE and Dynamic IP address but neither work. Just before completion it goes to test the internet and states theres an issue with the connection.

Any help much appreciated!  ;)

Now set up but the signal is mactually worse than my (very) old Linksys wireless 'G' router. I live in a three storey house and the only area where there is a phone line is in the top floor study, this was the same for the Linksys but you could get a passable signal (though not brilliant) in the living room on the bottom floor, now a signal is almost impossible in there unless you lie on the floor with the laptop by the wall!

Is there anything I can do with this before I send it back to the shop for a refund and buy a router that isn't D-Link branded?  ???
