It seems that everytime I start a bitTorrent client on one computer on my network, maybe 10 minutes after, all is down: no more wireless (association still shows on but no connection), internet is deadly slow... Any chances the QOS engine is down when there are too many connections?

If your BT is cloging your pipe then the router is going to preform badly. In my home I had to set BT to be 255 for the QoS.

Thanks alot, I configured the priority on the incoming connection and it seems to help but I haven't figured out how to control the port for the incoming connections, I don't want to set all ports at low priority on this computer... Any suggestions for controlling the outcoming connections?

Hi,

the DIR-655 is my first router, so i'm not really a pro in this topic.
I'm a software engineer, and one of our project uses bittorrent technology to distribute patches/updates/etc amongst clients (cca. 200 maybe). I started to work at home and i bought the DIR-655 because of its "award-winning QoS (Quality of Service) engine" and the ability to handle gigabit traffic (which is working flawlessly). However, when i start up the application, that utilizes the torrent technology, after a couple of minutes the router disconnects from the internet. At first i thougth that our program does something wrong, so i installed uTorrent 1.7.7 and tried to download an ubunto distro (and an episode of my favorite TV show, but you didn't hear it from me ) but it gave me the same result... The router doesn't reboot, just drops the connection and reconnects after a couple of seconds. The wierd thing is: if i disable the qos engine in the router's config, everything works fine. Well, not everything... the torrents are working, my connection is stable, but my browsing slows down dramatically, which is normal, i think, with disabled qos.
I've browsed through all the related topics, and did everything... played around with settings, tried almost every firmware i could get my hands on, restored factory settings... but still no luck.
Is this normal? Should i return the router and ask for an another one?

Some parameters:
ISP: T-Online (Hungary, PPoE)
Modem: D-Link DSL-360R (find nothing about this hardware on the internet... strange)
WAN port set to 100Mbs
FW: 1.11_MSBeta
HW: A2

i've tried that too. I gave a low priority to bittorrent (255) with these settings:

• Name: torrent
• Priority: 255
• Protocol: 257 (Both)
• Local ip range: both values are set to my machine's ip.
• Local port range: again, both values are set to utorrent's port, or a port range, for my development needs.
• Remote IP Range: 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255
• Remote Port Range: 0 - 65535

Then i tried without any rules. No luck. The only solution for now is to disable the qos engine... which is not an option.

Check your router log after you see the problem.
Are you getting "deauthentications"?
If so, try updating your wireless network interface drivers.

Sorry, forgot to give you any detail about this.
The wireless radio is turned off (don't have any wireless device), my connection is hardwired through cat5e cables.

I have no trouble with port forwarding. Incoming connections are working fine for about 1 or 2 minutes, then the router disconnects from internet.

I have owned a DIR-655 for almost seven months and have had the same experience as RadyR from the beginning.  The router is reasonably stable when traffic is low (transferring small files to my NAS or light surfing on the Internet).  However the router connects and reconnects periodically when I use a bitTorrent client (I use Azureus) or if I am streaming a video to my D-Link DSM-520.

I have also tried many firmware versions and experimented with turning off the radio, turning off QoS, manually forwarding ports, turning off UPnP, and turning off WISH.  All with no improvement.

Strange? I never bother to set anything in the QOS and the BT connections have max out at from 2.95MB/s 3.10 MB/s for downloads.

Correct, but their claiming to have connection issues with other computers wht BT is running. Also what client are you using?

Oh really! I no problem with other 8x client boxes and 7x network A/V media streaming boxes  running with BT is running.. Azureus 3.0.5.2

Results at 2.95MB/s using  Azureus 3.0.5.2 and DIR-655 A3/1.11
