IPv6 support for A4?
« on: December 25, 2010, 07:14:09 AM »

I absolutely need the support.
Will there ever be a new firmware to support IPv6?

Or else I'll need to buy a new router.

There was talk in the past of introducing support for IPv6, but I wouldn't bet on it.  The higher ups that used to help out in here and were the one's talking about it haven't posted in several months.

Hi mireka,

How old is that D-Link Dir-655 A4 Router of yours? Is it still under warranty? DIR-655 B1 Version supports IPV6, provided your Modem and ISProvider supports it as well.

I have it for about 6 months already so I can't return it.

I just need to be able to tunnel via tunnelbroker.
Any ideas?

Hi mireka,

It is still under Warranty! Call D-Link Support and ask for Level 2 Techs for help and see what they can do for you.

I came here looking for IPv6 support for this router too. I am interested in this router, partly because of the VPN support.

We are planning to buy this to last us three years and for that reason IPv6 support is mandatory (1.5-2 years is the current estimate end for IPv4 address allocation). If this router won't have IPv6 support, which D-Link routers currently have VPN and IPv6 as features, which are targeted towards the SOHO market?

Having an IPv6 supported router would be nice however in all actuality, until the WWW backbone, ISPs and DNS services get a plan of action together and actually implement IPv6 support on there side, it's probably not really worth having it supported in routers until OEM mfrs can make sure ISPs come close to implementing it and make sure everyone supports the standard properly. I also presume that most OEMs for routers are just holding off implementing this in routers due to marketing schemes as well. Why implement something in current or legacy products when they can put it into something new when the time comes and make money having you go buy the newer product. My 2 cents.  ::)
