My DIR-615 Rev B with firmware 2.25 likes to randomly drop connections out of nowhere and I always have to reconnect by selecting it by manually selecting it more frequently and most of the time it won't automatically reconnect for some strange reason by itself and the router is set to automatically scan for the best channel. Most of the settings are default besides and nothing has really changed in the configuration page and off course my SSID and security are enabled. Does anyone know or have any suggestions I'm running Windows Vista Business with SP1 with all the Windows Update and it’s a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ320P model with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG chip could someone please help me?

Happened to me.  Are you running any enhanced software firewalls or anti-virus system?

I'm running Norton 360 and it needs to be told to "trust" the wireless network SSID.

I am just running the Windows Vista bult-in firewall and this router is certified with the "Works with Vista" logo.

Sometimes the globe in Windows Vista will just disappear and sometimes a red x will appear and tells me that the wireless connection is disconnected and then I will need manually click on "View Wireless Networks" and click on my Wireless Network and that solves the problems but its sometimes annoying.

Oh and the "Auto select" option is enabled for the wireless channel to avoid wireless interference.

I am using Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. I am using the built in Windows Vista firewall.

same as alan for the antivirus on my vista pc I have noticed that happened after the firmware update...is there a fix?

The SZ models by sony have a program called the Smart-Wi connection utility. Always make sure WLAN is selected. Do you normally use this tool? (It is used to switch between the EDGE network and WLAN). Remove the utility if you don't. The SZ models also have a lot of updates so make sure you have the latest Intel wireless driver.

Try re-creating your wireless profile in windows (Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks > Remove all the networks listed here). The existing profile may not be setup properly or became corrupt in some way. Or, another network may be 'higher' and it tries to connect you, etc, etc.

Has the problem occurred just recently? Perform a system restore to earlier in the week.

Please post again if the problems persist, I'll look into it more for you. And please include as much information as you can .

Okay I don’t use Smart-Wii Utility because I do not have or subscribe to the built in Cingular/New AT&T Data plan or service at all so that immediately excludes me from even using the Smart-Wii program and my Wireless LAN is always on and the WLAN light is on the prove it. I have also updated my latest drivers from Intel website but still see no improvement. I have already called D-Link tech support regarding my concerns about my DIR-615 Rev B2 and they suggested me to make some changes to the “Advanced Wireless” section inside the router configuration page but again still I have the same issues and I have noticed especially when I unlock my computer (screen saver password protection is enabled) after a nice break I have to manually reconnect to my Wireless LAN since it doesnt like to do it automatically and I have checked the signal strength and everything seems good?

Hello alan,

Well, you may be on to something here. There is also a stamina switch on top of the keyboard that might be disabling your network card upon a given time of no activity.

Open the control panel. Switch to classic view on the top left. Open the "Device Manager." Right-Click your adaptor and then click properties. Click on the "Configure" button near the top. Now click on the "Power Options" tab on top. Here you will most likely see that it's set to disable upon hibernation/stand-by mode or even after a given amount of time. Sony does in fact enable this tool to conserve battery life. It would be the reason why you have to manually connect when you leave and come back. Make sure you disable the power option settings here so it won't turn off on you in the future.

Thanks, I will look into that on my VAIO SZ but what is really odd and it really concerns me this behavior is almost on all of the computers in the house on the WLAN are experiencing similar issues or a difficult time to automatically reconnect to the wireless connection sometimes it will connect but then disconnect when your surfing the internet and the little globe will disappear.

I got the same problem, but i am using HP Desktop and my conn keeps getting dc pls help!

Could D-Link please look into this is this a 2.25 bug or small issue?
