DSM-750 No Audio

I have a DSM-750 and am getting no audio from my L+R audio jacks (I have tried to connect to several known working devices).  I do however get audio over HDMI.  Before anyone asks, yes I have selected "stereo" and not 5.1 surround in the a/v settings.  Anyone have any ideas?
(BTW, I need the L+R audio jacks to work.  I'll be hooking this up via component video and L+R audio to an SDTV in my daughter's bedroom.  I don't really want to buy an HDTV if I don't have to.  Especially because of a sound issue...)
