No Internet Connectivity Through Router
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:29:08 PM »

Hello All,
New here and looking for some help/advice.  I've looked around and couldn't find anything that matched my situation.  Here it is...

I've been happily using my DIR-655 for over 6 months now without any problems.  Last night, wireless internet was working great but today it has stopped working.  I plugged my modem directly into my computer and the internet worked fine, so it does not appear to be the modem.  I also tried hard connecting my computer to the router (modem connected to router) but that didn't work.  One sign of trouble is that the "globe" LED on the front of the router is slowly blinking orange (it had been blinking blue since I got it).  I CAN access my WAN and I CAN access the router wirelessly but I CANNOT access the internet wirelessly.

Here is what I tried, all without any success:
-Rebooting the router
-Turned off wireless encryption
-Checked firmware (current)
-Ensured my PPPoE IP address was correct
-Reset router to factory settings and recreated my WAN

At this point I am at a loss.  I don't know what else to try.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Also, are there any diagnosis tools that can be used to help determine the problem?  Thanks!
Ryan

I presume you have DSL?

If so, I would power off everything. Power one the DSL modem first, then the router. Make sure the DSL settings haven't changed or your ISP hasn't done something different.

Might have to do a full factory reset and re-enter in the DSL PPPoE information. Also make sure the primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.

Well, I tried to power cycle all the components and that didn't do it.  I had to reset the router to factory settings and redo my network.  In the end all the settings looked the same but it worked.  Go figure.  Thanks for the advice!

Save off your configuration to file should you need to do a factory reset again. Helps to reload it and saves time.

Dinky, try this:

unplug all your power cords as you would for a power cycle.
** unplug ALL the cat 5 cables from the back of the router (ports 1-4). You can leave the cable to the modem.**
Power cycle your equiptment on
After they're booted, plug your ethernet wires back into the router.

A "Ben Franklin" says your back online.
