Are you using Cat6 or Cat5? Did you make it yourself or buy it?

You probably won't be able to see 300 with that adapter.  In order for an adapter to hit the 300 speed it needs to be able to operate on the 40 MHZ channel width to hit 300 with this router.  They don't list what chipset is in this adapter but it most likely only operates on the 20 MHz channel.

TP link uses Atheros chipsets.

The Atheros chipset is what is used in the DLink products, so you should be able to connect to the router at higher connection speeds.  You may have to check into the advanced porperties of your adapter in the Device Manager to see if some of these may need to be tweaked to get the higher speeds.

You won't void any warranties changing settings in the device manager.  Open the device manager find you nic, right click it and select properties, there should be an advanced tab where you can change its settings.  Depending on your adapter there may or may not be a lot of choices here.  If you are unsure of your changes , write down what all the original ones are first.  If there is a manual for this adapter it may tell of what settings can be changed and what each one does.  Also Google can be your friend for finding explanations of what each setting does.

Devices from the same manufacturer are usually (more or less) guaranteed to work well together. Eventhough the same chipset brand is used, there can be differences in feature implementation and versioning by the vendor, causing issues that can affect connection speed.

There is nothing you can destroy with the settingss in NIC properties.

Wireless signals are constantly transmitting and receiving whether or not you are browsing.  Even when your computer is on, because that's how it maintains a connection.

As far as making it more stable, you'd need to reduce interference between the devices.
