VLan's Question
« on: September 29, 2008, 06:00:30 PM »

Hello Guys,

I am bit new to DLink switches and looking at them they look a lot better investment to me, just wanted to know if I configure different vlans on DES1228, do I need to get something else to do inter vlan routing, or does it do automatically ( My guess is it does'nt.)

Can any one explain this please ?

Cheers
Venkat

It does not do routing, if you need a solution for multiple routed networks a layer 3 switch is usually the ticket.  I also can't suggest a good firewall enough.

Hi,

The model number which you got does not support inter vlan routing - Either u need a layer 3 switch or connect this switch to a router and enable inter vlan routing.

Thanks for the assistance, unfortunately this thread dated to September of last year so I think that ship has sailed.
