I'll test it out right away and get back to ASAP. However, I've got Vista Ultimate (32bit). I'm using a 655 A4 with the latest firmware from the support site.

Here is what i'm planning on doing (let me know if you're doing something differently)

1. download and install latest utility from www.support.dlink.com, specifically, from this page http://www.support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DIR-855#apps

2. install as usual

3. Expect a BSOD.

And I'm off!

Hi Wal_,

What is the differences between DIR-655 A3 and DIR-655 A4 units?

We made a change to the radio. A newer model as the older one was no longer available.

So it is confirmed the problem lies with Trend Internet Security 2007 or 2008..  I upgraded to trend internet security 2009, installed the share port software and it is working like a charm....  Thank to all for your help. You guys are great!!

Hi guys,
I have the same problem as dsteele1.
I started installing the latest Utility, and on the Status sign, i got a blue screen, and i also restored the system.
I use Windows XP Prof 32-bit and the AntiVirus Software is the latest NOD32.
I turned off the windows's firewall, but i didn't help.

I also ran the WinDBG, it says:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)

Any idea?

AVG and avast have HOLES. HUGE ones. Trendmicro catches things AVG will not.

AVG 8 will also slow down your Vista significantly. If you really don't want to pay there are some more 'advanced options'  ;) available for using powerful (and paid) AV programs.
