Won't automatically assign IP
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:50:59 PM »

Hey guys got some problems here. I just picked up a new DIR-655 and I can't get it to work right. If I use it as a wirelessly router only I have no problems but if I plug an ethernet cord into the router it won't automatically assign an IP to the computer connected. The wireless functionality still works with no problems. I thought it might have been just a weird DHCP issue so I manually assigned an IP to the computer but it still won't access the internet. If I have the computer set to automatically get an IP then it will say that the connection has limited or no connectivity but if I manually specify it the connection will show as connected but I can't ping it from the router. I have reset the tcp/ip stack using netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt but the problem still exists. To add more mystery... I can hook up my old linksys router using the same ethernet cord and everything works fine. It only happens when I plug into the dlink. Any Ideas?

So and update.... I put another NIC in my computer and it works fine with the DLink. So I guess my onboard NIC just doesn't like the DLink....
