soooo, i upgraded everything from my old linksys wrt54g and "G" adapters... any idea why my signal strength is "very low" all the time?  i have everything in the same place as before.  i am using the DIR-655 router with the DWA- 556 adapter.  i have the latest firmware and drivers.... i have not set any security b/c i dont think the signal would even connect if i did.  it appears to be using channel 1, i do not see anywhere to change then within the card properties.  anyone else experience this?  speed says 300mbps.  kinda frustrating, i was expecting much BETTER performance, not much WORSE.

* change the channel (neighbors on same or adjacent channel?)
* play with the antenna directions
* Is throughput really affected?

If you were using built-in wireless on a laptop, the signal will always be better since the wireless antennae will be wrapped around your monitor. With the external, DWA adapter (I have the same one), it is just a little rinky-dink antennae and almost worthless unless you're in the same room. I quit using the N part of my router and just stuck with my laptop's built-in wireless card. I haven't had any signal troubles since. I wish these manufacturers would think before making a product.

the neighbors are on channel 6 as far as i know.  they are "G"... i set them up.  ive tried moving the antennas on the router and card.  the throughput seems pretty bad, on the router page i think it was ~25 ( i forget the units)

Sorry to hear that. If I move the antennas around the signal strength changes from 80% to 40%.

Hmmm, with this speed, 27 Mbps, streaming audio should not be any problem.
Do you use any G or B devices? If not you might want to run the router on N only.

What firmware version do you use?
