If you don't have a second copy of your data, you are really skating on thin ice!  RAID is not backup, it's just hardware redundancy.

A couple of years back some wag here christened me "Captain Backup" because of my constant harping on the need for backup - I think it's time for me to pass the torch on.  ;D

gunrunnerjohn - keep up the good work. :D

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

I am a moderator and contributor to several forums, and if I had a nickel for every time someone shows up and wants to recover data after the fact, I'd be rich.  ;D

For a year or so, my little backup ditty was my signature line, I hoped it would sink in, but the incidents seemed to remain constant.  :-\  I guess lessons learned the hard way are the ones that sink in.  ;)

Remember: Data you don't have two copies of is data you don't care about!
PS: RAID of any level is NOT a second copy.
