DGL-4300 Gaming issues
« on: November 24, 2008, 03:59:02 PM »

Hey all!

Having recently moved to uni, I’m now in a house with 4 other house mates, all of which being connected to the internet etc. This basically rules out any chance of a decent online gaming session, as anybody refreshing or downloading instantly cripples my connection.

After doing some research, I recently purchased a DGL-4300 router, in the hope that connecting it to the Homehub, as well as disabling the wireless through that nasty ass hub, that upon getting everyone onto the d-link network, that gamefuel would sort this out,

Whilst seeing an increase in signal strength, which is always welcome, there is just as much of a lag problem as before. So, here I am…

Basically, I’m wondering what I can do in terms of access control, so I don’t totally cripple their internet connections, but limit their bandwidth consumption. But more importantly,  where I’m going wrong with gamefuel, and if the gaming section In advanced would help? As at the moment I’m just leaving it all checked without entering any ports etc. in fear of doing more harm than good.

Thanks In advance, just hope I can get this all sorted!

Just a little update. After a fiddle and a few adjustments, ingame lag seems to be reduced, even when computers are refreshing/loading videos.

However, our NAT on the xbox's (Despite claiming to be open), clearly isn't. As it takes an age to join matches, if at all. Could their be a 'double NAT' type problem due to the homehub? And if so, what could be done to amend this?

Thanks for any help :D

Are you running a HUB? Get a switch.
As for the NAT issue disable the SPI ( or enable the gaming mode) in the router. That should help.

Which version of the firmware are you running? If I remember correctly, version 1.6 was the one listed as Xbox Live compatible. Dlink changed the website and I don't see that anymore. I am running version 1.8, which apparently may have had a security flaw, as it was pulled from the website. However, I like the configuration page better on 1.8 over 1.6 and I have no issues with XBL. I tried 1.9, but could not get the NAT open and putting the 360 in the DMZ did not seem to help, so I rolled back to 1.8.
