Drives not 'snug' in bays?

Just an thought- the hard drives, when placed in bays, are able to move and rattle against the sides. Is this normal? They are not snug or tight fitting at all...

There's a bit of "play" on the bays in my unit.  You may need to place your DNS in an alternate location if there's significant amount of rattling as the vibration can be enough to affect the servo circuit in the HDD's.

There are several models of 3.5" drives that have only one platter in it; these drives can be thinner than a "standard" height 3.5" drive.  Samsung is one notable manufacturer for these slimmer drives. 

I'm using Seagate 1TB drives and they're about as snug as it can be without being difficult to insert or remove.

Would it be safe or a heatin problem to place a wedge of paper  in the side to make sure they were tighter? I do have Samsung drives...

1" high x .5" wide x Couple of MM thick shims should'nt be a problem.

If you're going to use a bit of cardboard, I'd suggest wrapping it with some black electrical tape.  Alternatively, you could look to put a 1" strip of cork that is a couple of MM thick ... old coaster, etc.

If you have any extra laying around, just roll up (or fold) an anti-static bag and wedge them in there against the top cover of the drive. I would not put it up against the PCB board however.

It's ghetto, but should be safe.
