  • I am getting rid of 2 DSM-750's. Firmware upgrade?

Just thought this would be helpful to see if we could come up with some good ideas to help out our developers.

1. The ability to navigate menu's like with the DSM-520. Push left or right to "go into" a file, instead of having to press enter and then push to back button go out of it (You could do both on the 520).

2. The ability to play files larger than 2 gigs.

3. Speed up the opening screen when the system is turned on.

Don't get me wrong, I love my D-Link's. But if nobody says anything we may never see any progress made.

From what I've read on these forums, it would appear that the 520 was a more advanced device in some aspects, perhaps making the 750 seem like a step backwards (although I've never used a 520, and the 750 is the first device of this sort that I've owned).

Small annoyances (medialounge mode):

1.  Smaller font (selectable) when large HDTV is used, the text is huge and requires allot of scrolling in big lists. A much smaller font (half size or less?) would work much better.

2.  Related to item above, when in medialounge mode and with longer file names, the file name scrolls REALLY slowly, faster would be nice (smaller font would help)

3. A wireless signal strength indication in the setup, I believe the 520 had this.

4. When longer audio files (i.e audiobooks) which are sometimes > 1 hr are played, the time displayed by the 750 gets lost and often files do not play to completion.  Also I beleive if paused they do not resume at the same time.

5. Bookmarks in audio and video files (stored in flash) so you can stop and continue later

- Navigating menu in DSM-750 is painfull. At present, it just goes forward only (1->2->3) and it can't go backward (3->2->1).

- At present I use DSM-750 to watch the content from my NAS. If I add more files or remove some files from my NAS before turning on my DSM-750, it's OK - no problem. If I do turn on my DSM-750 or I'm watching a movie from my NAS through DSM-750 and some files are added into my NAS, DSM-750 cannot display the new content. In other words, DSM-750 at present cannot refresh what he retriews from my NAS.

Better file support
and be able to play vob withought a problem and or converting vob to mpeg.

Alot of HD encoded content does not play because of way it was encoded.
The gui needs to be redone its awful, I would love to see this box do one thing that I havent seen been done before is to play windows media streams from any source site for instance have an icon on the menu similar to live 365 where when you click on it it lets you set presets based on the source entry so I would enter preset 1 =
http://players.eonstreams.com/FastAim/Player/Play.php?PulseID=256788234&SecurityKey=54117&IsIE=0

and it will automatically buffer and start playing the streaming audio

I think it would be great if the 750 was able to play ISO files.
I'd really like to see that.

  • Option to turn off the video instead of going to screen saver. That would allow my TV to go to sleep while I listen to music. (My TV has an energy saving feature when the video is disabled. Most modern TVs have this.)
  • Showing the MAC of access points in wireless setup (or other way to identify between access points with the same SSID)
  • Stereo output from the analogue audio out while sending 5.1 to digital audio. I think it's sending the rear surround channels to the analogue output at present (dialog is really quite on the analog output when digital is 5.1). I use the analog outputs to drive my IR headphones.
  • Accurate bit-rate display and seeking with large files.
  • Improved robustness of wireless connection. (previous firmware was better).

How about a button combination to restart the DSM-750 when it freezes up?

Holding the power button on the remote will not work. You have to go to the box and hold the button down for 10-15 seconds. I have two 750's and they both act like this from time to time with various video codec files and sizes. Just random times it acts weird and locks up. ???

I have both and i don't see much diffrence other then file playablity. and windows media center is more evedent in the 750.

You can't use the shuffle button on the 750. It does display two different icons on the video folder browse screen when you push it (two wavy lines and two wavy lines with a line crossing through them). On the DSM-520 you could just push the play button on a folder and it would play all the contents of that folder. Wish we had the option to do that on the 750...

I'd like to see support for embedded subtitles in mkv when passed through a media server.

I was able to get TVersity to pass an mkv to the DSM-750 without transcoding it, the video and the audio played perfectly. The only problem was with the subtitles. Despite the container being an mkv, and passed correctly (confirmed with looking at the output file in graphedit) it didn't decode the embedded subtitles.

That would be a really useful feature since I have a fairly large library full of mkvs with embedded subs, and it would save on the need to have TVersity re-encode the video with the subtitles.

Also I'd like to see the d-link media server support mkvs.
