Adding wireless AP/Bridge ?
« on: January 05, 2009, 07:56:15 AM »

Hello,
An old nube here. Be gentle. I am setting up a home wireless network. DSL-2540B set to bridge > DIR-655 > Denon 3808 wired, Panasonic BD35 wired, Dish DVR 622 wired, two wireless N laptops, one wireless N desk top. The question is I have a network capable HP 8450 printer that I had running wireless with a Buffalo Air Station Wireless G ethernet bridge. If I use this bridge will it kill the performance of the N network? If so could I use a DIR 625 in bridge/ap mode to keep the system all N compliant? I hope that makes sense. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, MJ

We'll be gentle, jonesm1  ;)

AFAIK, when you are using full N speed (true 300 mbps connection) on your wireless devices you will still connect at 300 mbps, but the G bridge will affect the speed, to accomodate the 'slower' G network device.

I do have a mixed network, but can not use the full 300 Mbps due to Intel chipset design restrictions. BVut I bet you will get another response from someone else who has this experience  ;D

As long as the G devices support AES cipher the speeds will not be effected.
